Growing Carrier is looking to appoint a new Underwriting Manager to lead the Commercial Lines Underwriting team in the North Dakota office. Ideally based Bismarck, ND, the candidate will work closely with the Underwriting team achieve highest level of productivity and customer service.

Essential Functions:

  • Establishes the underwriting strategy for the branch
  • Manages, monitors and directs the daily workflow of team members
  • Guides staff and authorizes underwriting decisions for the most complex accounts
  • Makes underwriting decisions when agents and underwriting staff have unique coverage questions or request exceptions
  • Monitors profitability and encourages achievement of premium growth goals
  • Facilitates cooperation and communication between various agents, branch departments and home office
  • Identifies growth and expansion opportunities and develops an implementation plan, securing the necessary resources for a successful outcome
  • Monitors training needs of underwriting staff and coordinates training accordingly

 

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in insurance or business administration or equivalent work experience
  • Ten years of commercial lines underwriting experience
  • CPCU designation required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of property and casualty insurance coverages, terminology and trends
  • Exceptional problem-solving, analytical and decision-making skills
  • High standards of professional competence
  • Excellent leadership qualities with the ability to motivate staff
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups
  • Occasional travel, valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report per company standards will be required if traveling
