Home Office Casualty Underwriting Manager

Instructs and develop zone underwriting staff on casualty coverages to help build casualty  expertise.  Act as a resource to all national underwriters by providing senior underwriting guidance on casualty matters.

Recommends improvements in underwriting policies, standards and controls to ensure effective and sound underwriting decisions.

Coordinates the Underwriting Referral process to ensure compliance with MSMM’s underwriting guidelines as well as meet customer service expectations.

Creat and execute market strategies to improve growth and profit using various analytic reports and data mining to drive receomendations.

Determines whether to accept, modify, or decline risks using sound underwriting principles and portfolio analytics.

Recommends types and limits of coverage to be provided.

Determines if risks fit within established reinsurance program or if additional protection is necessary. Authorize exceptions to line sheet/ retention guidelines on an individual risk situation.

Helps formulate retention guidelines in conjunction with corporate reinsurance strategy.

Develops or modify policy wording when standard text is not appropriate

Enhances and develop casualty products including forms and rating guidelines. Oversees implementation of rate changes/pricing startegies ensuring deadlines are met, changes are accurate amd appropriate regulatory approval is obtainied.

Monitors the amount of insurance in force on single risk or group of closely related risks, and evaluates possibility of losses due to catastrophe or excessive insurance.

Assit the audit team on specific underwriting reviews.

Education/ Experience: Bachelors degree

10+ years related Casualty Underwriting experience

Highly knowledgeable in all commercial Lines and company underwriting standards and practices

Excellent communication and people management skills

Must have experience with excess property and global accounts.

Designations: CPCU and/or other insurance designations preferred.
