About the Role
One of the nation’s top privately held AM Best “A” rated property & casualty carriers is seeking a Senior Vice President of Underwriting Strategy & Operations for a newly created executive-level role. This strategic leadership position, reporting directly to the Chief Underwriting Officer, is ideal for a seasoned underwriting professional with strong Excess & Surplus (E&S) lines expertise and a track record of driving underwriting operational excellence. In this high-impact hybrid role, you will shape underwriting strategies, improve business operations, and drive sustainable profitability across multiple business units including Primary Casualty, Excess Casualty, Inland Marine, and Bind.
Key Responsibilities

Develop and execute long-term strategic plans to drive profitable growth across business units.

Ensure alignment between underwriting practices and corporate strategy, while adapting to evolving market dynamics.

Collaborate closely with Corporate Underwriting and Actuarial teams to tailor and update underwriting guidelines and authorities.

Provide data-driven insights and implement action plans based on market trends, competitive intelligence, product evolution, and distribution channel effectiveness.

Lead process improvement initiatives to maximize resource allocation, financial outcomes, and operational efficiency.

Maintain and strengthen key relationships with E&S wholesalers and distribution partners.
Experience and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Economics, Actuarial Science, or a related field.

15+ years of underwriting experience, with a strong focus on commercial Excess & Surplus casualty lines.

Proven leadership in underwriting operations, with a background in financial management, strategy development, and business process optimization.

Advanced technical underwriting knowledge, particularly in Commercial General Liability (CGL), Excess Liability; experience with Inland Marine and Bind authority is a plus.

Exceptional relationship management skills within the wholesaler and E&S space.
