Over two thousand new artificial intelligence recruiting products are either already being used or coming to market, all promising that they will get you hires while cutting your workload in half. Sounds great, right? If you are like most employers, you have not used any of them yet. We are at the "flip phone" stage, and most employers are waiting to see what technology will perform like promised.

Even with the advent of AI, job postings remain the crucial starting point for any hiring process. They're your opportunity to broadcast your hiring needs to the world.  Your goal is to ensure your position reaches a targeted audience and attracts quality applications. To further enhance the quality and quantity of your applications, consider implementing these tips:

  1. Create two job postings for each job.  When you post on GreatInsuranceJobs.com and other sites, most job seekers use keywords to find open jobs. If your job happens to land on the first page of those results, you will get some applications if your job title and description meet the job seeker's expectations. If you take this same job and change the title to a job title used by your competitors for the same job, you will get even more applications from different people who would have never found your job! If your job title is administrative assistant, post the same job as an administrative specialist or office manager. If the title is a claims adjuster, post as a general liability claims specialist.
  2. Posting your jobs on multiple job boards is not just a good idea; it's a critical step in finding the best talent. With GreatInsuranceJobs.com, most of our employers are automatically posted directly via a feed from their ATS. From there, many posts to other sites that all feed into their ATS. Remember, it only takes one person to fill your job, and no matter how much we try to crack the code, your next hire could be looking through multiple sites during their job search. This strategy ensures you're casting a wide net and increasing your chances of finding the perfect candidate.
  3. Have a mobile application button on all job postings. If the job seeker is looking for a new job on their phone, a mobile application is needed to make sure you capture that job seeker's information. Sending them to your ATS takes way too much time. A mobile app will collect their name, phone, and email with an option to download their resume. When they submit this information, you will send them a link to the ATS so they can fill it out at another time. This will also allow you to follow up (directly or via email/text) to gauge their interest.  Having a mobile application is a game changer.

If you do these three things, your application rates will increase. Job seekers read headlines, which is why job titles are so important. However, the challenge for most employers is that once they enter your ATS, they do not complete the process, and many don't come back. Working with these job seekers will also increase your application rates.
