2016 Insurance Industry Jobs Report: Record Number of Insurance Jobs but Finds Key Challenges Ahead

Published on: Apr 6, 2016

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 6, 2016 – Orlando, FL – The insurance industry is set for another a huge hiring year, according to a report out today from GreatInsuranceJobs.com. With 91% of companies with current open jobs and a nearly across-the-board (98%) plan to hire at least one person in 2016, the employment market in insurance remains very strong. Going beyond the Bureau of Labor and Statistics numbers, this report offers real insight into the state of the insurance industry.

“An all-time record number of employees now work in the insurance industry, with significant job gains this year in the segments of agent broker, health carrier, as well as life and annuity,” states Scott Kotroba, Co-Founder of GreatInsuranceJobs.com. “Professionals with experience in sales, actuarial, claims adjusting, account management, customer service, call center and IT are in high demand.”

With an unemployment rate for this sector very close to pre-recession levels, continues Kotroba, “It will be interesting to watch this as the total insurance industry employee count keeps increasing, even as the aging workforce eyes retirement during the next 15 years.”

Other key findings from the 2016 Insurance Industry Employment and Hiring Outlook Survey include:

  • Combined, this survey found 11,123 jobs currently open in the 73 surveyed companies.
  • In addition to the 11,000+ jobs currently open, more than 12,000 jobs are forecasted to come open in the last three quarters of this year.
  • Employer’s top ten hiring challenges are included and lack of skilled talent leads the pack.
  • Insurance technology jobs are at an all-time high and very hard to fill.

“The challenges are real,” added Roger Lear, co-founder of GreatInsuranceJobs.com, “Many companies mentioned it is taking 60 to 90 days longer to hire skilled talent. Talent acquisition departments are having a hard time hiring finding skilled workers, as well as those in rural areas. Many of the companies surveyed for this report volunteered some very straightforward insight on these issues and more.”

A thorough look at the top ten hiring challenges, as well as some collective solutions, are included in the full 2016 Insurance Industry Employment and Hiring Outlook Survey.
