 Business Architecture-Multiple openings at Architect/Architect Advisor/ Architect Sr Advisor based on level of expertise
These positions can be located from any WellPoint, Inc. site nationwide.
Business Architecture is an integrated view of the business that serves as a foundation for the enterprise to enhance accountability and improve decision-making.  It translates business strategy into tangible capabilities that drive how people, processes, and technologies come together to build a core foundation.  Business Architecture helps drive top-down planning of technology investments and projects by aligning activities with the core capabilities that they will enable.  This also builds traceability, and identifies and prioritizes change initiatives required to support components of the value chain to ensure adherence to strategic architecture baselines.  This function requires a strong background in business process and architecture modeling, and functional business experience in the healthcare payer industry.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Help manage the development and maintenance of WellPoint';s business reference architecture, Strategic Business Architecture (SBA) and Operational Business Architecture (OBA), articulating a future state direction to optimize the value chain.
  • Build and maintain Business Architecture reference models, working with the Corporate Strategy group and business area SMEs to define content
  • Drive and complete the Business Architecture portion of business blueprints, including establishing guiding principles, defining capabilities, performing functional analysis/definition, analyzing and documenting the value chain, and assessing organizational impacts
  • Complete business context diagrams (BCD) for programs and projects (and lead discussions through them) that present a graphical depiction of relationships among business stakeholders involved in the solution
  • Participate in enterprise portfolio planning activities, developing a key understanding of project being proposed and their impact to Business Architecture constructs
  • Coordinate with WellPoint Business Requirement Managers (BRM) to provide linkage to other Enterprise Architecture groups and models, and coordinate and align activities to achieve the future state capabilities
  • Perform enterprise wide functional analysis to identify areas for efficiencies or rationalization opportunities, and conduct ongoing analysis of business capabilities and how improvements to architecture components can best support capabilities
  • Create deliverables that map functions to applications/solutions that support them
  • Build functional models (in an architecture/process modeling tool) for select domains
  • Define a common process for how projects are assessed against business architecture artifacts and blueprints; incorporate into overall architecture governance process. 
  • Participate in architecture governance reviews, and ensure alignment of projects to established capabilities
  • Develop frameworks and modeling guidelines to promote Business Architecture
 
Skills & Experience
  • Significant depth and breadth of knowledge of healthcare strategic issues and trends, healthcare operations, processes, organization and resources
  • Strong record of understanding key business drivers, lifecycle dynamics
  • Extensive experiences and expertise in defining business capabilities and planning and managing their delivery, using Business Architecture concepts and frameworks
  • Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas: Business Process, Requirements Development, Systems Implementation, Strategy Development, Enterprise and/or Business Architecture and Operational Readiness
  • Ability to participate in strategic planning activities and translate strategic decisions into operational and process-focused plans
  • Understand and communicate strategic, conceptual and operational concepts
  • Strong facilitation, critical thinking, decision-making and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to influence and provide leadership at multiple levels of the organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
