POSITION SUMMARY:  The position is responsible for supervising Claims Technical Coordinators and General Adjusters. along with support staff to ensure attainment of objectives, productivity, adherence to company policies and procedures and fulfillment of customer service expectations. The position is also responsible for monitoring independent adjusters' activities. This position mandates successful completion of all requirements of Fundamental Claims School, which includes obtaining an overall passing score.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: THE FOLLOWING ARE THE USUAL, BASIC AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION.  THESE FUNCTIONS ARE NOT TO BE CONSTRUED AS AN EXHAUSTIVE LIST OF ALL RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES, AND SKILLS REQUIRED.

• Manages activities and personnel of the internal claims unit and external field claim operations including training, development, counseling and performance evaluations.
• Evaluates claims and addresses policy coverage issues in excess of staff authority.
• Works with insured and external business partners regarding the handling and/or disposition of claims and other issues.
• Communicates effectively with agents, policyholders, Claims Unit personnel, Underwriting, Human Resources, Accounting and Claims Management.
• Exercises sound judgment regarding claim settlement value, settlement negotiations, policy application, and legal principles.
• Recognizes need for negotiation, and participates in planning strategy and negotiating within scope of authority.
• Documents in a clear and concise manner all information that is relevant to a claim and runs reports as required.
• Keeps current on industry activity and trends and reports to upper management.
• Participates in training and mentoring of strategic business partners and internal staff.
• Conducts Open and Closed File Reviews to evaluate and document overall operational value.
• Develops and analyzes statistical reports.
• Property delegates settlement authority and utilizes delegated authority effectively.
• Participates in Catastrophe planning, preparation and response (as outlined in Catastrophe Plan)
• Makes staffing recommendations to Director of Catastrophe Claims
• Provides the Catastrophe Claims Director claims-related information as it relates to the financial impact of the Company.
 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Strong planning and organizational skills
• Strong leadership and managerial skills
• Strong verbal and written communications skills
• Comprehensive knowledge of property claims practices and legal terminology
• Strong analytical and negotiation skills
• Extensive knowledge of scoping and estimating property building damages.
• Computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Ability to work extended hours in response to a catastrophic event for lengthy periods of time.


REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field with skills transferable to insurance; OR equivalent combination of four years in college education and/or experience relevant to the position.
• Five years of experience in Personal Lines Property claims handling.
• Two years supervisory/managerial experience.
• Active Florida Adjuster license (620) - Appointment Required within 90 days of employment.
• Within 90 days of employment, must successfully complete all requirements of Citizens Fundamental Claims School, which includes obtaining an overall passing score.
• Prior experience with computerized estimating programs.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• 3 to 4 years of supervisory/managerial experience.
• Five to seven years of claims handling experience.
• Prior experience with Xactimate computerized estimating software.
• Prior experience with Xactanalysis management reporting software.
• Prior Catastrophe claims handling experience in a supervisory role.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 
This position requires the ability to sit for long periods of time, hear and converse over the telephone, and key frequently on a computer (2 or more hours per day). Ability to be mobile, operate a motor vehicle, climb roofs and work in a highly energetic and flexible work environment.  Position may require periodic overnight travel including lengthy catastrophe response.
