SUMMARY: In this position you will be responsible for the development and support of web-based reporting applications for Travelers Middle Market and First Party segments. Your web development skills, combined with current business intelligence software from SAS. Cognos and Information Builders, are needed to create the next generation of reporting applications for more than a thousand internal customers.
As part of the Data & Infrastructure (D&I) Information Delivery team supporting two multi-billion dollar business segments, you will be part of a fast-paced, challenging work environment which features strategic development, quick turnaround tactical solutions, multiple business intelligence development tools and continual improvement to existing applications The D&I Information Delivery team is seeking a business intelligence application developer who is ready to expand their skills and experience to improve our team¿s ability to successfully meet its responsibilities to all customers within these two business markets.
PRIMARY DUTIES: This positions principal responsibility is to enhance our internal business customers ability to access and interpret the wide variety of information needed to make the daily decisions that drive growth and profitability in the insurance market. Our D&I Information Delivery team is continually improving the current array of web applications, with an emphasis on upgrading the format and function of the screens and integrating new internal data sources, output from advanced analytics, new techniques of data visualization and relevant third-party data. We also have a strong demand for new reporting applications.requiring innovative approaches that raise the standard for the next round of new development. . During the execution of your technical responsibilities, you are responsible for most aspects of the application development life cycle: collect, evaluate and analyze management information data; develop requirements and specifications as needed; and design, develop, automate, and test reporting applications. You will often work closely with business customers, in addition to your peers within Data & Infrastructure and in various parts of the Information Technology area. Your communication skills will be valued as you participate in design meetings, peer reviews, walkthroughs of prototypes, testing phases and post-production issue resolution.
Communication is also important in the completion of ad hoc requests with short deadlines. About 15% of your time is spent on such requests.
You will be expected to work independently with some technical guidance and will often be expected to make progress on more than one deliverable at a time. You will be asked to continually upgrade technical competencies as new reporting tools, web utilities and data sources become available.
Competencies:
Minimum of four years developing web-based business intelligence solutions.
Excellent knowledge of two or more of these web technologies and reporting suites. ASP.Net, HTML, Java Script, WebFOCUS, Cognos, SAS, Microsoft, Hyperion. Your ability to use advanced web skills to customize the look and function of each reporting application to exceed customer expectations is a critical success factor.
Experience extracting data from a range of sources, including DB2, SQL Server, Teradata, FOCUS, SAS and flat files.
Excellent SQL knowledge, with experience creating stored procedures and data views against relational databases.
Experience developing applications within the property and casualty insurance industry is a plus. . Experience using FOCUS programming language is beneficial.
Experience with constructing metadata views of data sources.
Data modeling and data architecture experience is helpful.
