POSITION SUMMARY

Provide strategic actuarial decision-making analysis and guidance to designated Commercial Accounts regions and underwriting offices pertaining to pricing, profitability and business plan goals at an account, book portfolio and line of business level.  Be the actuarial advocate/stakeholder for line of business strategies driving profitability for Commercial Accounts.

Key Functions:

- Responsibility for profitability of one or more regions for Commercial Accounts that total a minimum of US$500 million in net revenue:
- Work with regional management to ensure adequate portfolio pricing that produce results consistent with the regions growth and profitability objectives.
- Work with underwriting line leads to develop and implement line of business strategies overall for Commercial Accounts specific goals based on collaboration with the findings of IndustryEdge team and Middle Market Product and Loss Analytics Actuarial teams.  This will include overall countrywide strategies as well as specific territorial and industry segment strategies.
- Perform segmentation analysis to determine best/worst performing areas of the assigned region(s), and recommend strategies for growing/correcting those areas as appropriate.
- Provide actuarial input and guidance to the planning process for the assigned region(s).
- Conduct actuarial analysis to examine the effectiveness of existing underwriting and pricing strategies in the assigned region(s) and communicate results of the analysis to regional management and Middle Market Product and Loss Analytics actuarial teams.
- Identify and address training needs of field employees in actuarial concepts, underwriting tools, and pricing models.
- Work with Account Executives to appropriately price individual large accounts where necessary (using either guaranteed cost or loss sensitive products) to achieve the regions profitability and growth goals.

Other Responsibilities:

- Assist in special projects as required by Commercial Accounts Management teams.
- Mentor and develop other team members.


SKILLS & ABILITIES NECESSARY TO PERFORM JOB

The Incumbent shall demonstrate strong actuarial skills as evidenced by producing high-quality actuarial analysis that is consistent with the appropriate actuarial standards. In particular, strong actuarial modeling and analytical skills are required.

In addition, the Incumbent shall have excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain the results of actuarial analysis to non-technical audiences. The Incumbent shall be able to function independently while juggling many projects to meet established business needs and deadlines.

The Incumbent is expected to show initiative in identifying and solving issues in the assigned region(s) that affect profitability and growth, including demonstrating a strong understanding of the region(s) business objectives to drive bottom line results. In particular, the Incumbent is expected to be a key member of the region(s) senior management team(s).

In addition, the Incumbent shall have excellent management/human relations skills including ability to:
- work collaboratively with Commercial Accounts Senior Management Team, Regional Management Team, Account Executives, Middle Market Actuarial Teams and other Regional Actuaries;
- interface well with executives;
- possess a professional demeanor; and
- have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, management, and clients.
The Incumbent needs to be willing to travel within their territory  approximately  15% to 25% of the time.

QUALIFICATIONS

Member of the Casualty Actuarial Society.
Minimum 6 years of Property/Casualty insurance experience
