POSITION SUMMARY:  This position is responsible for the design, implementation, and validation of the Windows 2000 / 2003 Server infrastructure with a focus on Enterprise technologies such as Virtualization/ESX, Windows Clustering, Citrix, and Exchange. This position will work closely with the Supervisor, Systems Engineering, Systems Engineering team and Enterprise Architecture group in the architecture, design, implementation and maintenance of the organization’s infrastructure, while ensuring high levels of performance and system availability.  It uses knowledge of industry best practices and policies to provide expert methods and techniques for designing [architecting], developing, testing, implementing, and analyzing Active Directory, Windows OS, Virtualization, Citrix and related products and technologies.

Also identified with this position are responsibilities in the practice of Configuration Management, Release Management [pre-production testing] and Change Management [development and validation of change requests] processes as implemented in Citizens. This individual will coordinate and implement numerous large and small scale technical projects, assisting in the creation of strategic and long term planning, and participating in an on-call support rotation.  This position requires extensive experience in Active Directory, DNS, Virtualization, Clustering, Windows OS and related technologies.  Additionally this position requires the ability to leverage a thorough understanding of the interactions between systems to not only troubleshoot problems, but also identify performance-tuning opportunities with both internally and externally available resources. This position will be responsible for interaction for escalated requests from lower level Systems Engineers and other Infrastructure groups.

As a whole, this position has responsibility for all Windows servers, server-side software, and infrastructure equipment relating to the Citizens infrastructure. This includes, among other things infrastructure planning, system monitoring, contingency planning, security, performance tuning, software distribution, Internet connectivity, and production support.  This individual also serves as an interface to the Application Development team for troubleshooting potential hardware problems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  THE FOLLOWING ARE THE USUAL, BASIC AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION.    THESE FUNCTIONS ARE NOT TO BE CONSTRUED AS AN EXHAUSTIVE LIST OF ALL RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES, AND SKILLS REQUIRED.
• Designs, implements and validates new Windows systems and associated hardware
• Develops and plans for process improvement to the Windows Server Infrastructure
• Develops and plans for process improvement to the Virtualization environment
• Develops and plans for business-continuity / disaster-recovery capabilities and technologies
• Provides recommendations and technology-based solutions to business requirements
• Provides 3rd  level support, answers hardware/software questions, provides technical assistance/troubleshooting
• Configures, deploys and redeploys servers and related equipment
• Creates documentation of server systems, operational procedures, topology, and hardware / software inventory
• Maintains and coordinates servicing of all network connected servers and peripherals
• Provides technical guidance and mentoring of junior team members
• Documents problem resolutions into the appropriate systems
• Deals effectively with people and clearly communicates verbally and in writing
• Troubleshoots, analyzes and resolves system and user problems
• Plans, organizes and coordinates work assignments and prioritizes workload
• Provides customer service via telephone and interpersonal contact
• Provides backup coverage for the Admin/Engineering Teams, if needed
• Rapidly deploys fixes to systems in response to newly identified stability and security threats
• Participates in software license tracking and purchasing

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• 4 year degree in related field or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• 5 or more years experience as a Windows 2000/ 2003 Systems Engineer
• 3 or more years experience of systems support/integration/design in large (1000+ user) environments
• 1 or more years experience in leading and implementing projects

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and professional appearance
• Expert knowledge of Microsoft Windows 2000/2003 Server Operating Systems
• Expert knowledge of Microsoft systems including Windows OS, SQL Server, Exchange, DNS
• Expert knowledge of Microsoft best practice for design of Active Directory and DNS
• Expert knowledge of Windows server administration, including system stability, integrity, and troubleshooting
• Expert knowledge of monitoring practices for Windows technologies and hardware
• Expert knowledge of LAN protocols including MS Networking, DHCP, DNS, WINS
• Expert knowledge of Virtualization technologies focusing on VMWare/ESX
• In depth Knowledge of Citrix and related thin client technologies
• In depth Knowledge of Firewall/VLAN technologies
• In depth Knowledge of Storage technologies including Fibre Channel, iSCSI and NAS devices
• Proficiency in upgrading of software and hardware, planning and roll out of servers
• Proficiency in backup integrity and recovery coordination along with disaster preparedness planning
• Self motivated, with the ability to work in both a team environment and individually
• Knowledge of relevant computing environment to provide support of technical terminology, concepts and applications
• Ability to understand and comply to the relevant corporate policies and procedures pertaining to customer support
• Knowledge of relevant commonly-used concepts, best practices, and procedures
• Knowledge of local and remote computer system diagnostic tools
• Proficiency with current versions of  Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint
• Current certification as MCSE 2000 or higher

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
• 3 or more years in leading and implementing projects
• 5 or more years experience of systems support/integration/design in large (1000+ user) environments
• Knowledge and understanding of ITIL/COBIT
• Insurance Industry experience
• Current certification as; or working towards certification as:
    o VMWare Certified Professional
    o Citrix Certified Administrator / Citrix Certified Enterprise Administrator
    o CISSP / Security +
    o CAPM/PMP
    o Linux +

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 
This position:

• Requires the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Requires the ability to work shifts outside of normal working hours
• Requires the ability for overnight travel, up to 25%
• Requires the ability for extended travel in the event of a catastrophic event
• Requires the ability to be on call according to scheduled rotations
• Requires the ability to support both planned and unplanned events
