Position Summary
Unitrin Direct Auto Insurance is currently seeking a full-time Senior Web Developer to define, develop, test, analyze, and maintain new software applications and enhance existing software applications in support of the achievement of business requirements.
Unitrin Direct is an e-commerce automobile insurance company with offices in Plymouth Meeting, PA; Chattanooga, TN and Meriden, CT.
Job Description
• Work with other members of the application development team to design and implement new software programs and enhancements to existing applications.
• Successfully work independently and simultaneously manage multiple assignments. Work in an efficient manner resulting in low defect, high quality software that fulfills the specified business requirements. Confer with management and personnel of other departments to implement projects.
• Take a leadership role in larger projects, coordinating with other developers to see a project through to completion. Mentor other developers. Enforce a disciplined development process by performing and soliciting code reviews on a regular basis.
• Assist in the definition, development, and documentation of software, business requirements, objectives, deliverables, and specifications on a project-by-project basis in collaboration with internal users and departments.
• Provide ongoing maintenance and support for applications within area of responsibility. Be available to provide off hours production support.
• Remain current with emerging technologies. Present subjects/issues clearly to technical and non-technical audiences. Provide regular communication to management on programming assignment issues and status.
• Technologies used: Visual Studio 2008 C#; SQL Server 2005; WCF, AJAX; JSON; FLEX; VB6/COM; We use a strong discipline of OO design and data driven design. We work in a robust SDLC environment.
Position Requirements
• 5+ years of progressive programming experience.
• A well rounded, multi-language, relevant computer education and background through Masters level education or extensive work experience. MCAD or MCSD a plus.
• Experience with C#, ASP.NET, JavaScript, VB6, SQL Server 2005 and HTML
• Experience with object oriented design and methodologies. Experience working with relational databases and using a data driven design.
• FLEX experience is highly desirable.
• Experience working with source code control, production control and issue tracking systems.
• Experience working on a Microsoft Windows platform, proficiency in Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.
• Working knowledge of current Internet technologies.
• Requires excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, organizational and time management skills with a team-oriented approach
• Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to teach and mentor others.
• Ability to lead projects; breaking complex projects into manageable pieces that can be delegated to other developers to deliver an end product.
• Ability to provide production support 24/7 to the web system.
• Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
• Experience working in the field of Insurance or Financial Services.
