JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the sale of new property/casualty insurance business via direct (inbound and/or outbound) telephone or internet contact with prospective customers in multiple states. Provides counseling regarding insurance needs and product availability. Provides quotes, determines eligibility, and binds coverage after collecting all related underwriting data and information. Performs outbound calls and follow-up work as required to close the sale. Specializes in auto and property lines of business.
Note: This job may serve as a developmental role for incumbents - successful completion of training period and accomplishing assigned quality standards - training period two/four months.
RELATIONSHIP: Relationship: Reports to NSS Sales Supervisor.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Handles incoming calls/emails from prospective auto or property customers according to best practices. Performs outbound calls and follow-up work to close the sale.
2. Writes quality risk policies based on underwriting requirements; makes decisions by interpreting and using appropriate classification systems, rating plans, tiers, and selection standards; utilizes training and sales techniques to close the sale.
3. Answers questions, provides explanations, and makes recommendations to applicants regarding appropriate coverage for auto/property policies, limits, deductibles; considers customer needs as well as company guidelines. Determines and enters rating information into systems; provides quotation, and binds coverage within prescribed limits.
4. Completes necessary applications and forms; issues conditional contact/binder within authority. Follows up for necessary documents and payments in order to close the sale.
5. Assists and contributes to the team's current quotas/goals by meeting individual quotas/goals, as well as unit/team goals.
6. Maintains current understanding and proficiency in sales techniques and product offerings, keeps up to date with market conditions and competitors, and systems enhancements. Cross-trains on other products and lines of business.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High school studies; some undergraduate studies preferred. State licensing as required. Continuing education as required by state(s). Prefer participation in professional insurance coursework.
Knowledge: Required knowledge of sales techniques, insurance processing procedures, best practices, state regulations and customer service.
Experience: Must be fully trained in sales of auto and/or homeowners insurance as obtained through two years related sales/service experience. Prefer exposure to multiple property/casualty insurance product telemarketing in insurance call center environment. Associates must obtain the required state licenses within the time period designated by the business unit. If an associate fails or is unable to obtain required licenses/registrations within the time period designated by the business unit, the associate will be ineligible to continue in the position.
Skills/Competencies: Skills: Possesses strong verbal and interpersonal skills to communicate technical insurance information to prospective customers. Ability to operate personal computer hardware/software in a WINDOWS environment as evidenced by the ability to pass the applicable data entry/typing test.
JOB CONDITIONS:
Overtime Eligibility: Eligible (non-exempt)
Working Conditions: Requires the ability and availability to work in a call center environment including extended periods of sitting at a PC, use of headset, non-standard work hours/shifts in a 7/24 operation, and overtime as needed (non-exempt).
