Purpose: Pro-actively resolve complex liability issues from a plaintiff perspective on property damage files. New assignments will consist of files with values of $100,000 to $185,000. Existing inventories may include files with values from $100,000 to $250,000. Additionally, inventories may include newly assigned files in the investigative phase that have values rising up to $500,000. Files with values in excess of $250,000 are co managed with Unit Managers. Job Components: Investigate all potential theories of liability, analyze legal documents, develop subrogation theories of liability, evaluate legal liability, evaluate recovery potential and develop resolution strategies. The role requires aggressive pursuit, negotiation and resolution of all claims handled. This includes communication with insureds, general adjusters, claimants, witnesses, attorneys, experts and underwriters to obtain and/or provide the necessary information. Effectively use expert resources including the Major Case Units, Staff and Panel Counsel, Loss Prevention and Engineering and Travelers Investigative Services while controlling expenses. Manage and direct litigation files, including the development of litigation plans and resolution strategies while controlling expenses, and assuring cost effective resolution.
Maintain quality files and computerized file documentation, with appropriate follow-up and diary dates to maximize timely recoveries. This includes adherence to several internal reporting requirements.
Qualifications: - College degree or equivalent in business experience - 3-5 years of claim handling experience. - Basic understanding of the litigation process and legal theories. - Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills to support decision-making - Strong communication and negotiation skills - Demonstrated organizational and time management skills to effectively manage a high volume, demanding caseload. Ability to manage numerous high priority tasks on a daily basis while maintaining control of an inventory. - Ability to establish and maintain productive business relationships with both internal, and external business partners. - Ability to work independently with a sense of urgency - Computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Products - Available for overnight travel
