JOB DETAILS: Provide support for the following Availability initiatives.
1. Lead the Availability Review & Design Ownership - Take ownership of the formal Availability Review process. Manage this infrastructure system consultation and provide assistance for restoration plans. Administer this process and ensure customers satisfaction.
2.Initial Restoration Validation assistance on design recommendations - Work with device/application owners to plan the validation of the restoration process for their business applications. Assist in documenting the plan, work with other areas to provide technical assistance, help coordinate test activities, and evaluate results.
3.Manage metrics associated with availability review design processes.& restoration design repository and information inventory - Provide technical support for the resiliency/availability information repository. Influence design and attribute capture. Assist with Core and Line of Business (LOB) areas that use these applications.
4.Participate in technology availability application support development - Influence in the design and development of additional tools to manage the recovery and the application liaison effort for disaster recovery incidents
JOB DESCRIPTION: This Sr. Technology Engineer position requires a high energy, self initiator to be responsible for the promotion and consultation of technology availability across the enterprise. Specifically, this candidate will consult and guide both infrastructure and applications through identification, analysis and solutions for improvements in technology availability, including: distributed, network, voice and host components. Candidate would continue the establishment and operation of a technology Availability Engineering Review process. This would entail designing the engagement process, managing reviews, coordinating documentation, communicating recommendations and establish a reporting/tracking framework. The candidate must have the ability to coordinate and oversee large scale projects to assist technology teams in identifying opportunities to improve infrastructure and application availability. The candidate must have a solid technical understanding of the interrelationships of systems, applications, infrastructure and business functions. Experience with project management, technology deployment and cross organizational teamwork is required.
GOALS & OBJECTIVES: -Influence infrastructure and application design to achieve highly available operation -Assist with production application design to achieve the highest level of availability -Utilize standards to develop common resilient availability options -Focus on redundancy and robust technologies -Influence long-term Technology Availability Roadmap -Perform structured multi-layered analysis on facilities, hardware and software for failure points -Research new and standard ways of providing continuous availability -Document solutions to provide metrics and holistic views of an applications survivability -Develop education and guidelines for implementing availability and restoration solutions -Provide Availability Review consultation & coordination
JOB REQUIREMENTS: -Educating technology partners on the importance and scope of infrastructure availability, resiliency planning and validation -Assisting in the development and implementation of strategic plans in support of Business Availability goals -Understanding and helping to educate employees on the Business Availability Policy, Business Availability Standards, and Guidelines -Participating in the evaluation and validation of high availability designs & resiliency plans during exercises and after actual events -Contributing toward strategic technology solutions -Identifying opportunities for the technology businesses to improve process\functional availability and to limit exposure to disruption risk -Oversight of technology infrastructure analysis and availability improvements with a focus on staying available and when needed, restoration capabilities. -Excellent verbal and written communication skills -Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences at times -Aggressive, self-starter able to work as both an individual contributor and as part of a larger team -Availability design experience -High availability implementations -Restoration designs (DR) -Data recovery initiatives -Sufficient knowledge in all IT infrastructure components -Data and voice network -Enterprise storage and backup solutions -Wintel and Unix -LAN center design (power, cooling) -Demonstrated Project Management skills -Demonstrated negotiation skills -Mainframe knowledge experience is an advantage, but not required. -Proficiency in the use of all common desktop products. -Some experience with Access and/or Lotus Notes Databases preferred, but not required -Experience with network, storage, technology preferred, but not required
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree with 6+ years of technology management or availability design experience.
