Selects, develops and manages a group of commercial underwriters and support staff who analyze qualitative and quantitative data, evaluate risk, coverage, and price for property and/or casualty business. Directs and monitors the day-to-day underwriting activities for a unit, directly and through front-line managers and is accountable for attainment of business plan objectives in alignment with the overall Market strategy. Responsible for the development of critical key skills and technical training of unit members.
QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated ability to manage underwriters and achieve growth, profit and other operational objective. Advanced knowledge of commercial property and/or casualty insurance, marketing techniques, contracts, funding and rating plans. Advanced analytical skills to interpret business information drawn from multiple sources to make critical account decisions regarding quality of risk. Effective interpersonal and presentation skills need to maintain strong relationships in order to grow the business profitably. As normally acquired through a bachelor''s degree or equivalent, plus at least 7-10 years of property/casualty underwriting experience. Advanced degree and/or professional certification (CPCU, ARM, etc.) desired.
This is a range posting for a grade 17 Portfolio Underwriting Manager and grade 18 Underwriting Manager.
