SUMMARY: Reports to Regional Vice President or Managing Director. Responsible for the profitability and retention of Select Account business within an assigned territory. Responsible for managing and developing staff of Travelers Express Plus Account Executives. Works with Regional Underwriting Director, Underwriting Director Travelers Express and Sales Director(s) to develop and implement marketing, sales and underwriting strategies in support of short and long-term business plans.
PRIMARY DUTIES: Establish and implement long and short term business strategies that reflect local market competitive conditions and, at the same time, meet growth and profit objectives for the assigned locations. In conjunction with Sales Director and Managing Director leads the agency planning process. Develops annual business plan with agents using Select segmentation strategy, product and services matrix and compensation programs. Manages territorial underwriting function to achieve profit, revenue, loss ratio and expense targets. In conjunction with Regional Underwriting Director, delegates underwriting authority via letters of authority. Monitors and revises authority as appropriate. Responsible for quality assurance reviews of underwriting staff in accordance with agreed upon sample standards. In conjunction with Regional Underwriting Director, provides coaching and training for underwriting staff based on results of QFP and C.U.R.E. process. Sets objectives for underwriting staff and provides formal feedback on a regular basis Primary Travelers Express Plus Referral Underwriter In absence of Underwriting Director Travelers Express, primary Referral Underwriter for Travelers Express Underwriters Works with Personal Lines, Specialty, National Accounts and Commercial Accounts as appropriate to support market penetration objectives. Facilitates communication between Sales Executives, Travelers Express Plus Account Executives and Travelers Express staff Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal resources (e.g., Risk Control, Claim, Operations, etc.) to ensure delivery of all related service to Select clients. Demonstrates the ability to build partnerships with other business groups and identifies and delivers agency solutions and product solutions at the account level. Maintains an understanding of all Travelers products, services and solutions and initiates discussions with other business units as appropriate.
WORK EXPERIENCE: Minimum 8 years Commercial Underwriting Experience.

Underwriting Technical competence. Demonstrated mastery of property and casualty underwriting for the Travelers Express Plus Segment. Comprehensive knowledge of all risk selection and pricing tools and techniques within Select and Commercial Accounts. Sound knowledge of all Select products and contracts. Proven ability to take intelligent risk
Sales Ability to recognize opportunities to penetrate new markets and to profitably increase market share Strong knowledge of competitive market conditions Ability to identify customer needs and take appropriate action to meet those needs. Ability to build and maintain profitable agency relationships.
