We currently have an opening for an Underwriting Associate to join our Commercial Lines Middle Market team in New Jersey.
This job provides complex technical services and support for the Property & Inland Marine Underwriter in the New Jersey branch. Contributes to team and branch goals as set forth by management.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Reviews and handles new and renewal business within a delegated authority. Gathers and analyzes underwriting data, refers risks exceeding delegated authority with recommendations for action to underwriter. Reviews all agent entered/bound new business submissions for completeness and accuracy of submission. 2. Develops and analyzes underwriting information, including loss data, preparing recommendations for underwriting action. Reviews and analyzes loss control reports and recommendations within a delegated authority. Gathers and analyzes portfolio management information identifying trends with recommendations for action. 3. Demonstrates understanding of, and can articulate OneBeacon underwriting appetite and policies and is able to answer basic coverage and pricing questions. Is able to effectively cover underwriting desks as needed, in absence of underwriters. 4. Develops excellent working relationships with staff of assigned agencies. Handles all agent special service requests.
Requirements: Broad knowledge of corporate policies and procedures. Demonstrated proficiency with copier, facsimile, phone, and computer software including current Windows operating system, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook, and other data entry and spreadsheet applications and programs. Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally with company personnel and customers, and exhibit technical competence and good judgment. Ability to work independently and as a team.
Education and Experience Preferred: 5+ years of insurance carrier experience. Bachelor?s degree preferred but not required.
