SUMMARY:
Reviews insurance applications to evaluate, classify, and rate each risk to determine acceptability, coverage, and pricing by performing the following duties.

DUTIES:
Accountable for producing Personal Lines business in the assigned territories. Production is generated by marketing efforts consisting of national and local advertising, telemarketing and agency visitation. Generate production at a level of established personal goals. Maintain producer files including distribution of marketing brochures and mailing contract information to new producers.

Underwrite new and renewal business for companies based on underwriting authority and adherence to State and company rules and regulations regarding the preparation and distribution of insurance contracts. Maintain quality of end product by preparing all documents according to established procedures including assigning policy numbers and maintenance of policy registers for binder business.

Maintain all Personal Lines reference manuals.

Has knowledge of or performs computer data entry of quotations, binders and related support documents. Respond to requests for coverage on a timely basis.

Monitor critical areas, such as loss ratio, retention ratio and new business hit ratio, formulating corrective action where necessary.

Work closely with management to ensure smooth running program.

Maintain positive job attitude and good working relationships with co-workers and supervisor.

Mentor and train Assistant Underwriters as needed.

Other duties may be assigned.
Required Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Required:
Bachelors degree plus minimum of two years of insurance education and /or experience. Undertakes self-development activities including obtaining industry designations and attending industry-related seminars and training.

Preferred:
Insurance experience in underwriting with excess and surplus lines.
