SUMMARY: Reports to Underwriting Director Travelers Express. Responsible for profitability, growth and retention of assigned book of business and underwriting for Select Travelers Express new and renewal business for assigned agencies. The incumbent may require some guidance in underwriting complex accounts whose requirements fall outside of established underwriting standards and guidelines. At this level the incumbent may also require some assistance to sell and market all Select Account products and negotiate the more difficult accounts. May participate in setting agency goals for assigned agencies and work with Sales Executives to identify and generate new business flow in accordance with our underwriting appetite. May act as a technical referral resource for less experienced underwriters. May actively participate in underwriting or workflow projects with a regional focus. Responsible for participating in or handling all steps of the Agency Audit process or agency platform training, to include IE/IE Net and Agent HQ.
PRIMARY DUTIES: Support long and short term business strategies to effectively achieve profit and growth objectives. Follow Select Travelers Express Underwriting Best Practices to evaluate new and renewal Select Accounts business to accept, decline, modify, rate, and quote these accounts. Underwrite and price accounts in support of the strategic business plan. Ensure production and underwriting objectives are achieved. Negotiate price, product, and coverage issues on individual accounts. Recognize opportunities to negotiate and sell Select platform. Analyze and respond to issues and problems that affect production and loss ratio objectives on assigned book of business. Take corrective action and/or refer the problem to the appropriate area within the organization. Develop and maintain strong agency relationships and is knowledgeable about the competitive marketplace. Support the Sales Executive and Management in analyzing and evaluating the viability of book rollover opportunities. (Due diligence). Responsible for quality control through handling of agency referrals and policy issuance, as well as compliance with all regulatory requirements. Participate and/or lead related projects and assignments (e.g., review and develop agency production strategy, policy services, workflow etc.). Team together with Sales Executive to achieve growth, loss ratio, and quote to written targets for assigned agency plant. Able to work independently to solicit new business and negotiate renewals with assigned agency plant. Work with Sales Executive to identify agency training and/or audit needs. Work with SC/RSF to ensure underwriting and pricing standards are met. Communicate direction to the SC/RSF within designated timelines for renewal and endorsement handling. May provide technical underwriting leadership and guidance for underwriters on more complex renewals, endorsements, and issues. May help identify and develop technical training needs within the office and developmental opportunities to continuously build underwriting expertise. Demonstrates the ability to build partnerships with other business groups and identifies and delivers agency and product solutions at the account level. Maintains an understanding of all Travelers products, services and solutions and initiates discussions with other business units as appropriate.
OTHER: Minimum 3 years Commercial Underwriting experience Strong knowledge of Property Casualty business/products Strong technical underwriting skills. Solid marketing skills. Strong automation skills, including rating systems/platform (IE/IE Net, Gen-A-Rate, Agent HQ), Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. Strong communication, negotiation and analytical skills. Ability to translate technical and system knowledge to others Strong knowledge of Property Casualty business/products Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, decision oriented environment Ability to manage multiple tasks (strong organizational skills)
