Responsible for product development, premium growth, success, and profitability. Makes/implements recommendations regarding the design, pricing, underwriting, distribution and other processes related to managing the product life cycle. Directs relationships with relevant functions such as Underwriting, and Sales/Marketing. Accountable for the success of products in assigned regional and operational functions.


RELATIONSHIP: Reports to Vice President - Marketing. Direct reports to this position varies.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Directs the development, implementation and maintenance of features/capabilities of products within a particular line of business with accountability for product growth and profitability.
2. Directs the analysis of product design, pricing and associated processes such as distribution, and underwriting practices.
3. Evaluates new program/product submissions from general agents. Makes recommendations to senior management based on acquired line of business knowledge and opportunities for improvement.
4. Directs key initiatives on product strategy and profitability. Directs the development of strategies related to multiple product profitability objectives.
5. Plans and develops strategies to take advantages of opportunities. Functions as the expert on internal and external factors that influence the product line''s results.
6. Identifies opportunities to increase profitability through new programs and/or opportunities to restrict or exit programs to maintain profitability.
7. Identifies and directs the analysis or trends for product lines within regions.
8. Directs the development, delivery, and implementation of training on products. Conducts internal audits of Underwriting practices to ensure consistency in Underwriting practices.
9. Develops, designs, and monitors short term and long term strategy, vision, and pricing/underwriting philosophy behind the assigned line(s) of business. Directs the implementation of the plan.
10. Designs financial objectives and strategies on communicating financial results.
11. Works closely with other departments, such as actuary, and regulatory compliance in the product management process.
12. Designs regional or national product strategy / integration plan/ communication plan and implements across regions and brokerage.
13. Directs associate management including: performance management, salary planning and administration, training and development, workflow and organizational planning, hiring and placement, and disciplinary actions.


Education: Undergraduate studies in insurance, actuarial science, mathematics, risk management, economics, finance, accounting, business administration or related field. MBA preferred.

Licenses/Designations: Insurance licenses or designations such as CPCU, ARM, CLU, FLMI, ChFC, CFP etc preferred.

Experience: Eight years experience in multiple excess and surplus lines insurance, financial services, marketing, or communications including four years previous product management, and associate management experience. Multiple-line product experience preferred.

Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of analytical tools, expert level knowledge of core business functions, underwriting policies and best practices, performance measurement techniques, and systems required. In-depth knowledge of related pricing, marketing, insurance models/contracts, and financial analysis necessary. Must have a working knowledge of training theory in order to train other personnel.

Skills/Competencies: Excellent verbal and written communications necessary to effectively influence, train others, present information, communicate with management, agents, brokers, and policy holders. Must be skilled in the use of related systems and analytical tools. Ability to envision and drive for results, deal with ambiguity, solve problems, and learn on the fly. Demonstrated decision making skills, identify trends/patterns within regions necessary. Excellent project management skills necessary. Ability to stay at-ease with senior management and present critical information to them required.
