Claims Representative Trainee

This position is responsible for conducting the investigation, evaluation and disposition of coverage, liability and damages issues of automobile material damage and bodily injury claims.  Initially, this position will typically require 100% direction and guidance from a manager, which is expected to diminish over time.  This individual may function as a trainee for an average period of  9 – 12 months.  Starting salary is $36,000/yr. 

Responsibilities & Objectives

·         Adjust claims according to applicable law and policy provisions and comply with all Department of Insurance Regulations.

·         Recognize critical files and immediately report them to Management.

·         Immediately refer Department of Insurance inquiries to manager.

·         Confirm coverage and recognize coverage issues.  Resolve moderate issues with manager direction. Refer more complex issues to manager as necessary.

·         Conduct investigation including interviews, recorded statements, securing public records, and obtaining documents.

·         Negotiate and communicate effectively with body shops, attorneys, customers and vendors.

·         Evaluate and conclude claims consistent with CG (Claims Guidelines) and Department of Insurance Regulations.

·         Maintain mail, diary and phone calls in a timely manner.

·         Index and respond accordingly upon “index hit”(only applicable for bodily injuries).

·         Handle total losses and may handle thefts and salvage.

·         Recognize possible fraud, refer files to manager and SIU and perform basic fraud investigation.

·         Recognize and document subrogation opportunities and refer them to Subrogation Unit.

·         Demonstrate CUDA compliance.

·         Successfully pass Casualty 101 course.

·         Function as a trainee for an average period of 9-12 months.

·         Perform other duties as assigned.

PREREQUISITES

Education

• Bachelors degree (3.0 or higher GPA preferred) 

Experience & Skills                          

·         1 – 3 years business experience a plus

·         Strong customer service orientation

·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills

·         Working knowledge of Microsoft Word

·         Excellent analytical, problem solving and conflict resolution skills

·         Must be self-motivated and resourceful

·         Operate well in a team environment
