Job Summary
Positions within this family explore and profile data, draw business inferences, complete analysis and clearly articulate findings for a target audience.

Under limited supervision, this position performs research and analysis and provides analytical leadership on product line management support and data analysis for product lines and underwriting functions within Business Insurance Underwriting and Product (BIUP). The incumbent will partner with the product team to understand and identify key levers of profitability and portfolio management, and create and/or leverage reporting to monitor success criteria and identify outliers. This role may serve as the primary point of accountability to support the General Liability, Umbrella, Auto or Workers Compensation product lines on profit and loss results and analysis as well as other data analytics and competitive analysis that support key initiatives in these product lines. This role may also support data requests and reporting from the underwriting function in BIUP.

The incumbent must be a strategic leader and thinker, responsible for leading data analysis and supporting delivery of data analysis tools to drive business results. This position does not lead others.

Limited Supervision: incumbents use own creativity to get the job done. Decision making is left up to incumbents. Incumbents receive assignments in general terms and are free to work out the details according to their own judgment. Interprets regulations and policies independently.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
Partners with BIUP team to research and identify information and analysis supporting product line management. Recommends the types of analysis that accommodate the business need and find commonality to standardize.Presents analysis and recommendations to business partners and BUIP leadership.

Through active engagement with business partners across Business Insurance, leverages existing and emerging technologies, analysis tools, and data sources to effectively provide meaningful analyses to BIUP team members. Incumbent also manipulates raw data and understands the ultimate design required to meet business requests. Proactively stays abreast of data source development to identify best internal and external data sources in response to business requests.

Leads projects in support of line management and data analytics. Solves complex problems within area of expertise. Utilizes strong leadership skills to drive effective solutions to complex business issues. Directs the development of reporting to monitor business critical results.

Works with the BIUP product leads on the development of presentations to senior business leaders on financial and market/environmental trends that impact the financial performance of all product lines that BIUP governs.

Takes a leadership role for BIUP on data analytics and data management. Advocates for the data needs of BI Underwriting and Product through the BI Data Council and the Information Management & Analytics department.

Facilitates reporting on key monthly/quarterly reports on the financial performance of all product lines that BIUP governs. Partners with Line Management & Data Analytics team to ensure consistency of reporting across the lines.

Ensures quality controls and process improvements are on-going process within areas of accountability. Defines and drives best practices around descriptive analytics
Designs standardized peer review best practices.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
Bachelor's degree in computer science, MIS, mathematics, finance, statistics, or equivalent experience required. Typically has a minimum of 6-8 years' experience in Data Management or related field.

Thorough knowledge of Data Management functions (multiple or concentrated knowledge of particular function) and systems applications/ programming languages. Experience working on broad/business-wide projects or initiatives. Demonstrated experience working across functional areas within organizations.

Possesses advanced knowledge of subject matter in order to solve unusual as well as common work problems and advise on technical matters and to serve as a resource to organization.

Job Specific & Technical Skills & Competencies
Demonstrated experience working successfully with data analysis systems and tools such as SAS, SQL, Cognos etc.is preferred. Thorough knowledge of the main features of the collection of data and the relationship of data elements to each other.

Ability to interact effectively with others across functions, businesses, and levels within organization. Ability to think strategically. Ability to consider other ideas seriously and accept feedback. Builds and maintains credibility with others. Skilled at analyzing problems and making decisions.
