Job Summary
The Director plans at a tactical level, manages the effective use of resources, and directs data management staff to develop, implement and maintain large complex system(s) and/or projects.This leader has a significant influence on and accountability for the continuous maturation of data management, and responsibility to optimize efficiencies across the project and resources lifecycle. The Director has overall responsibility of a team that can turn isolated analytic insights into repeatable business solutions to be consumed by a broad range of users.

This position has a people management component.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
Is responsible for:
  • Focusing the use of technology on both immediate business priorities and initiatives while building a long-term strategy for the utilization of analytics across each functional area within PI Product Management.
  • Cultivating and leading a high performing work team (including off-shore resources) to work with and analyze internal and external data sources. This includes:
    • moving data from discovery to integration with ongoing business operations, through the coordination and prioritization of the team's activities to enable progress on multiple, concurrent, high priority projects
    • Partner with statistical modeling team to operationalize analytic output
    • ability to identify, recommend and implement tools to analyze and combine seemingly disparate structured and unstructured data for more complete and useful insights
    • integrating all data sources so that all relevant data is ready for analysis in a managed environment
    • analyzing and interpreting data, draw business inferences and clearly articulate findings to modeling business partners.
  • Working across the organization to ensure the right data is collected and processed to enable smart, data-driven decisions
  • Working within broad limits and authority on complex assignments requiring specialized knowledge in breadth and/or depth in area of expertise which may be on or more of the following:
    • Advanced data analyses
    • Exploratory Data analysis to support actuarial and/or research methods
    • Broad business knowledge
    • In-depth Line of Business knowledge
    • Broader awareness of enterprise Analytics & Research community
  • Recommends data management concepts according to needs and finds ways to implement those concepts
  • Explores opportunities for higher level analytics with research function; presents analysis and recommendations to senior business leaders and modeling business partners
  • Applies analytics to analyze data, validate assumptions, and understand results and is able to effectively communicate those results to a broader audience
  • Drives the application of TRV and industry standard data management concepts and techniques within team and projects
  • Proactively stay abreast of industry, developments, changing trends / techniques and technologies for data analysis. Direct data analysis and benchmarking studies. Adjust data strategy as appropriate to anticipate, respond to, and manage trends.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with business partners.
  • Develop new approaches to business problems.
  • Partner with peers across the company to ensure consistency and alignment where appropriate.
Budget management of department

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
PhD Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) plus 2 years experience -or-
Masters Degree in STEM plus 5 years experience -or-
Bachelor's Degree in STEM plus 7 years experience -or-
Bachelor's degree with FCAS designation plus 4 years relevant progressive statistical analysis work experience required.

Advanced working knowledge of modeling/research/analytics or actuarial required. Relevant statistical analysis work experience required. Relevant work experience should be in directing and performing research and/or advanced analytic work (e.g. predictive modeling) in the insurance industry.

5+ years experience in a leadership role on data management projects

Strong analytical debugging skills; monitor and analyze production jobs for performance tuning and process optimization

Experience and working knowledge with Big Data technologies such as Hadoop preferred. Interest in working with Big Data technologies a must but... must also have a SAS dataset working knowledge

Computer Proficiency: Ability to read/revise/review a statistical software program (e.g. R, SAS, SPSS); Ability to create advanced programs from scratch.
