Job Summary
This position is responsible for providing state product support and leading the analysis, maintenance, and implementation of Personal Insurance (PI) products to achieve state financial objectives. State product support includes taking action for state specific product, underwriting, risk management, systems, agency management and other distribution channel changes and initiatives. May make recommendations and develop state non rate strategies. An understanding of the state market and competitive environments is required to affect and manage these efforts. The position also requires an understanding of PI Product Management state team capabilities and processes.

Position reports to the Managing Director of the State Product Services Team and requires location to be in Hartford. Periodic travel is expected to Personal Insurance Business Centers and field locations as needs arise.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Implements state product changes (rates, rules, underwriting, compliance/regulatory actions, policy contract and non-policy forms).
  • Develops and implements state non rate and underwriting strategies in response to underwriting results and competitor actions.
  • Performs analysis for state product changes, quoting & issuance system changes, agency management actions, and other distribution channel actions. Analysis includes but is not limited to underwriting results and actions, competitor environments, claim trends/large loss analysis, and local market mix of business.
  • Monitors, analyzes and evaluates state regulatory and legislative changes that may impact PI products. Ensures state products (rules, rates, forms, underwriting) and business practices (i.e. policy processing) are in compliance with state laws and regulations.
  • Provides input to business requirements for system implementation of state product changes and provide input to system test criteria and validates test results.
  • Develops communication and training materials to support state product changes, non-rate state product changes and product positioning.
  • Develops effective relationships across multiple business units/partners and shares key information with business partners to support the achievement of financial objectives.
  • Provides support and consultation to other Personal Insurance departments (Business Centers, Sales & Marketing, Claim, etc) for state specific topics.
  • Utilizes PI systems and data marts to analyze, research and troubleshoot state issues and questions.
  • Adheres to State and National product processes (filings, standing orders, etc), procedures and best practices.
  • Supports completion of timely and accurate responses for DOI filing inquiries.
  • Utilizes other Personal Insurance National Team (Forms) to conduct competitor coverage/contract analysis.
  • May participate on and/or lead national or state product initiatives or projects.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
Typically 3+ years experience. Demonstrated leadership behaviors. 4 year college degree or equivalent experience.
  • Strong understanding of insurance financials, products, underwriting, regulatory environments and risk management activities.
  • Experienced using Microsoft Office applications: Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Visio.
  • Ability to collect data from data marts or willingness & ability to develop these skills (Desirable: basic knowledge of Impromptu or similar query tools.
  • Desirable: completion of risk management or insurance course work, matriculation in CPCU, IIA or other recognized insurance designations (examples CPCU, ARM, CIC).
