Job Summary
This sales and production underwriting position is responsible for underwriting and selling small commercial products through high profile agency partners. Qualified candidates will be sales-orientated insurance professionals who thrive in a fast-paced, high energy business environment. Through a structured training program, the Account Executive (trainee) learns coverage, Travelers underwriting philosophy and business unit products and services. The trainee will also shadow experienced underwriters and through observation learn role-specific sales and negotiation skills. As knowledge base increases, the Account Executive is gradually given more underwriting responsibility and eventually an apprentice territory, under the direct supervision of their coach and/or manager. Upon successful completion of the training program, the Account Executive is granted underwriting authority and assumes responsibility for new business production in a designated agency territory.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
  • Bachelor degree (preferred majors include Risk Management & Insurance, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Marketing); or minimum 2 years of relevant property casualty work experience (such as Agent/Producer, Sales, Claims, Risk Control, Finance, Underwriting support).
  • A current/valid driver's license is required. Must be able to demonstrate or provide examples of strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present effectively in front of others.
  • Must be able to demonstrate ability to think analytically about business problems and propose solutions.
  • Background or coursework should demonstrate working knowledge of analytical tools and methodology, such as using spreadsheets and other software to analyze information and make recommendations.
  • Background or coursework should include working in and/or understanding a sales and/or marketing environment. Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.
