Receives and evaluates data for new business quotes for groups over 50 lives. Reviews risks for underwriting requirements and determines rating and benefit structure using establish Underwriting guidelines. Works within a defined authority level. Prepares and forwards proposal outlining quotation and requirements.Update and maintain quote information in the ANA Quote System. Update weekly quote activity reports.Communicates frequently by telephone and written correspondence with internal and external customers to clarify and resolve underwriting and policy/coverage requests.Provides sales assistance and information to brokers and marketing representatives for groups, by answering questions and requests, quoting rates and explaining coverage, regulatory requirements, policy information and procedures. Follows up on quotes to become a bind.Approves new business applications for groups with 50 or more lives. Reviews for minimal deviation from original requests to ensure adequate pricing and coverage. Assures all outstanding underwriting requirements have been met and applications are complete and coded for policy issue.Assists in the quarterly renewal review of the book of business to determine necessary action i.e. rate increase, premium audit reviews, claim investigation, etc.Researches and compiles premium and loss history, including reserves, in response to experience requests. Evaluates risk for proper rating.Communicate and coordinate with marketing rep daily regarding quotes, requests, activities, new prospects, etc.Reviews and approves requests to add voluntary or enriched coverage and additional groups or union classes which may affect exposure or liability.Initiates conservation efforts on large cases that are triggered by a cancellation request. Also determines any earned premium or claims exposure.Provides various customer & policy service support as needed.

DescriptionMember of staff responsible for initial and renewal underwriting of groups with 50 or more employees for New York and New Jersey State mandated plan coverage. Functions include underwriting new cases and properly rate existing business at renewal that would result in a profitable loss ratio. Maintain quote system an reports to monitor new business quote activity. The underwriter works closely with the Vice President and Senior Vice President. A wide degree of judgment and decision making authority is expected.
