DescriptionBTIS a member of the AmTrust group of companies is searching for an experienced and knowledgeable Underwriting Manager to manage and lead a group of underwriters and customer service representitives for our Commercial Business Department This individual will oversee activities of our Small Business products and Excess. Provides supervision for a group of underwriters who review, analyze, and inspect insurance contracts. Analyze various rate plans utilizing a company's claims history to determine the appropriate rate plan. Must be familiar with regulations at the federal, state and local level. Gather competitor information, develop and maintain relationships with potential and current carriers, and develop sales tools to grow department. May require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty, or requires equivalent work experience. Familiar with a variety of field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks.Provide support and coaching to other underwriters and provide leadership for multiple products within the team
  • Essential Functions:
  • 1. Managing Small Business products and Excess while placing business themselves
  • 2. Develop workflows and maximize automation 3. Implement renewal procedures to increase renewal status 4. Audit underwriters each week to identify challenges, confusion in procedure or guidelines, and need for additional training 5. Assist Underwriters in solving more complex underwriting issues 6. Represent the Underwriting Department with key company contacted 7. Seek out and develop new relationships with potential carriers for appointment 8. Train new staff as needed Knowledge, Skill, and Experience:
  • Brokerage Experience
  • Sales Mentality
  • 5-7 years of Commercial Underwriting background
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Understanding of costs and expenses
  • Exceptional Customer Service skills(internal and external), strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Determine acceptability of risk in accordance with company guidelines and standards
