ORGANIZATION:               Our client is a very financially strong, multi-line super-regional property casualty insurer with over $2 billion in assets, operating in 13 states, and distributes products through a strong network of independent agents.   




OBJECTIVE:                   Responsible for driving the sales strategy, growth and profit of a 4 state $750M assigned region.  Develop and manage the distribution force including agency appointments and management activities.  Coordinate all sales and marketing activities within the assigned region.  Accountable to the Business Unit Presidents for managing regional profit and loss results. The preference is for the individual to be located in Central Ohio but a commuting arrangement may be considered.





  1. Lead cross-functional state teams that will:
  2. Coordinate efforts of a cross functional team to develop sales and marketing plans that support the state strategies and business unit goals.
  3. Direct the research and analysis of business opportunities within the state.  This includes the coordination of input from team members and the presentation of identified opportunities to senior management across the company.
  4. Coordinate with marketing and other key business partners to execute go-to-market plans and initiatives.
  5. Partner with business unit areas to effectively mitigate risk exposures, manage current and future product offerings, and achieve profit and loss targets.
  6. Align with marketing and other sources to perform research, marketing opportunities and competitor assessments by state.



  1. Direct all activities related to agency management and improving market share and profitability within assigned states.
    1. Coordinate with internal resources to effectively manage agency appointment, licensing and onboarding processes.
    2. Develop and administer agency business plans, agency action plans and performance reviews
    3. Manage agency terminations


  2. Directly manage all sales functions for assigned states:
    1. Manage District Sales Managers to build and improve an effective sales team in the market through development of and accountability for:
      1. Product knowledge
      2. Territorial profiling/mapping to determine business mix growth opportunities relative to distribution plant current capabilities and performance
      3. Optimizing sales and profit performance of existing agency plant
      4. Execution of sales strategies
  3. Develop and implement sales plans to meet growth and profit objectives for all property/casualty/life insurance sales and motivate the sales team.
  4. Responsible for selecting, leading, developing & retaining a high performing staff.  Conduct frequent feedback and coaching discussions.  Administer salary and performance evaluations.  Identify skill gaps and developmental needs and oversee plans to fill gaps and training needs.


  5. Work with Senior Management to evaluate, prioritize and resource major projects related to state team strategies.
  6. Manage operational expenses in accordance with budget.






Bachelor's degree plus 5 plus years of property/casualty experience or equivalent experience required. Advanced degree(s) and/or related certifications preferred (MBA, CPCU).


Prior sales management and market development experience desired in personal and/or commercial lines preferably in an independent agency channel.

Proven ability to lead teams and manage complex projects required. Evidence of transforming a sales region or area which resulted in improved results is highly desired.   

Must be high energy, and have strong communication, decision making, leadership and negotiations skills required
