DescriptionThe Senior Commercial Underwriter is part of an MGA (Managing General Agent) and is responsible for multiple lines of business. The Senior Commercial Underwriter oversees the elevation, selection, acceptance, rejection, pricing and servicing of commercial insurance policies within accepted company procedures and guidelines. This person will maintain productive broker relationships and manage agency profitability within assigned areas. Underwriter will use knowledge and independent judgment to determine eligibility of risks in accordance with AmCom program guidelines. Responds to questions from agents and insureds received via telephone, email, mail and fax. Essential Job Functions ·Responsible for the management, profitability and growth (written premium) of assigned multi-line book of business ·Review and analyze insurance applications and documentation to determine risk acceptability in accordance with company guidelines and standards ·Recommends appropriate premiums and coverages following risk analysis and supported by applicant documentation, business factors and competitive situations ·Prepares written communication on adverse underwriting decisions, proposals, referrals, rate appeals, underwriting requirements, application status and declinations ·Build productive and positive relationships with appointed AmCom brokers ·Proficient in underwriting multiple-line business accounts (new business & renewal) up to approved underwriting authority level

Position Requirements+ Bachelor's Degree or comparable industry underwriting experience required
  • Minimum five years' experience in standard commercial underwriting practices and procedures
  • Bachelor's Degree or comparable industry underwriting experience required
  • Strong underwriting and analytical skills, thorough knowledge of commercial Property/Casualty products with emphasis on commercial auto liability and general liability lines of business
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Applications and the ability to learn new programs
  • Carries out responsibilities consistently, dependably and accurately
  • Professional telephone etiquette with excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Self-directed, energetic and detailed orientated with the ability to multi-task
