DescriptionThe Senior Transportation Underwriter is part of an MGA (Managing General Agent) and is responsible for multiple lines of Transportation business. The Senior Transportation Underwriter oversees the elevation, selection, acceptance, rejection, pricing and servicing of commercial trucking policies within accepted company procedures and guidelines. Maintains productive agency relationships and manages agency profitability within assigned areas. Will use knowledge and independent judgment to determine eligibility of risks when compared to guidelines of programs available. Responds to questions from agents and insureds received via telephone, email, mail and fax. Essential Job Functions ·Responsible for the management, profitability and growth (written premium) of assigned trucking accounts ·Review and analyze insurance applications and documentation to determine risk acceptability in accordance with company guidelines and standards ·Recommends appropriate premiums and coverages following risk analysis and supported by applicant's documentation, business factors and competitive situations ·Prepares written communication on adverse underwriting decisions, proposals, referrals, rate appeals, underwriting requirements, submission status and declinations ·Build productive and positive relationships with appointed AmCom brokers. ·Manage multiple-line business account underwriting up to approved underwriting authority level.

Position Requirements+ Bachelor's Degree or comparable industry experience required
  • Minimum five years' experience in commercial transportation underwriting practices and procedures
  • Experience in underwriting ‘Sand & Gravel' risks highly preferred
  • Strong underwriting and analytical skills, thorough knowledge of commercial transportation products with emphasis on commercial trucking liability and general liability lines of business.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Applications and the ability to learn new programs.
  • Carries out responsibilities consistently, dependably and accurately
  • Professional telephone etiquette and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-directed, energetic and detailed orientated with the ability to multi-task.
  • Familiar with a variety of the transportation field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
