The position will help drive growth in the region's A&H business through the development of new products and the enhancement of existing products. Also, the position will contribute to the acquisition and retention of A&H business through new/existing partnerships by providing strategic and tactical support to regional management. In addition to interfacing with regional management, the position will also work closely with local Underwriting and functional Area leaders in the region.
Key product related responsibilities include applying appropriate pricing methodologies and effective rate monitoring procedures. The pricing methodologies utilized should be transparent and consistent for each class of business. The continuous use of Data Analysis and Portfolio Management will support the production and profit targets for A&H in the Latin America Region. The role will also provide important support in the areas of Data Management, Financial Planning and Loss Reserving processes.Responsibilities:
The underwriter must ensure that accurate quotes are produced that are competitive to the customer, yet profitable for the company.
Develop and implement A&H product development initiatives.
Provide management information and technical commentary to enable Senior Management to frame appropriate strategic and financial plans for the business
Continually assess and improve ongoing business performance in accordance with long term strategic goals.
Ensure that all UW activities are undertaken in accordance with legal and compliance requirements and in line with internal protocols and best practice. Comply with internal operating processes and guidelines and regulatory requirements
Works directly with A&H- UW team, as well as local team and regional support functions leadership to ensure that corporate initiatives are driven down to the country and successfully implemented in a timely and efficient manner.
Liaise with Regional and local team to implement Best Practices in Underwriting in the country
Reviews complex risk submissions for both new and renewal business, gathering and analyzing all pertinent data to determine acceptability of risk according to ACE standards
Responsible for identifying areas for corrective action within the portfolio as a result of the identification of trends / poor results in the book of business.
Any other key duties as may be assigned.
Insurance knowledge is essential (knowledge of the market, regulations, brokers, products, competitors, basic understanding of the international markets, etc.)
Technical Knowledge and understanding of A&H underwriting including risk evaluation, the elements of coverage, pricing and key metrics
A good understanding of general insurance financials and internal management reporting tools.
An ability to convey underwriting principals and performance results to a wide ranging audience.
Professional appearance and attitude.
High level of self-management and motivation with ability to multi-task and operate well under pressured environment.
Ability to build relations with internal colleagues across both functional and regional lines and work as part of a team, motivating others to achieve required goals
Microsoft Office – Access, Excel, Outlook, Word
Demonstrated initiative as evidenced by ability to self-manage, organize and prioritize work with minimal direction from others.
Bachelor's degree in Business, Mathematics, Statistics or Economics.
Must be Bilingual English / Spanish (verbal and written). Portuguese also desirable.
Experience working within a matrix organization highly desirable.
Effective and positive negotiation skills.
