Key Aspects of this role:

As a Risk Management team member, you will primarily be responsible for identifying risk and influencing change within the insured's organization so as to eliminate risks that may result in property damage, injury, or legal liability. In addition to Workers' Compensation, OSHA and DOT compliance, you will provide consultative support to the insured regarding safety issues such as policies, training, injury, mitigation, accident mitigation, root cause analysis, incentive programs, safety campaigns, and progressive disciplinary processes. Desirable candidates will be able to effectively:

  • Conduct on-site inspections and complete a Risk Assessment Score by evaluating the safety culture, best practices, BASIC scores and losses

  • Effectively communicate to senior management with National Interstate and the motor carrier as to what risk issues exist and a plan to minimize them

  • Prepare comprehensive reports with your findings and recommendations to the insured and to National Interstate management

  • Proactively follow up on critical recommendations to ensure they are addressed with appropriate action plans

  • Complete analysis of loss data, claim reviews, large losses and communicate trends

  • Review large loss reports to ensure steps for further accident prevention or injury mitigation are put in place

  • Provide training to individual and group captives, product management and risk managers

Skills and background that we are looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree from a four year college or university strongly preferred

  • Working knowledge of insurance coverage, risk management, DOT and OSHA regulations

  • CSP, ARM, or APA designation is helpful but not required

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint

  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication

  • High degree of independent judgement and critical thinking

  • Ability/willingness to be on the road as there is 41-50% of travel involved with this role and will focus on our west coast customers
