This job is responsible for applications development, maintenance, budget, and all Information Technology (IT) responsibilities for the Global Specialty Development Web team. Makes decisions on personnel actions (hiring, terminations, promotions, etc.). Controls revenues and/or expenses within operating unit and responsible for meeting budget goals and objectives. Provides input to policy level direction regarding standards, budget constraints, etc.
  1. Leads, plans and manages major projects for the business
  2. Guides and coaches development staff
  3. Communicates issues and progress to management and customers as needed
  4. Conducts interview for potential candidates
  5. Aligns staff according to skill set and experience to support the IT projects for the business
  6. Develops and cross trains staff to gain technical and business knowledge and achieve exceptional results
  7. Implements systems development methodologies and enforces compliance
  8. Performs audits or reviews of systems
  9. Assists business customers by advising them on defining systems requirements
  10. Monitors staff performance by rewarding positive behaviors and addressing negative behaviors accordingly
  11. Conducts performance reviews and staff meetings with staff providing frequent feedback on meeting the individual and organizations objectives
  12. Works closely with business units to provide direction and alternative in addressing business systems challenges and new opportunities
  13. Works closely with the internal and external business clients to develop technology solutions that provide Assurant a competitive advantage
  14. Recognizes the positive behaviors that exemplify the corporate goals and values and rewards staff accordingly
  15. Monitors and supports on-call staff and assures system availability
  16. Assist Sr. Management in technical consulting and expertise as needed
  17. Works directly with external vendors and clients to achieve business objectives as directed by management

This candidate will be managing a team of about 10-20 developers. This team is made up of on shore and off shore developers.

Basic Qualification

- 7 years of experience with Client/Server, web based system development, including .NET and Java

- 4 years of people management experience

- 2 years of experience with Agile methodology

Other Requirements:

- Experience with Client/Server, web based system development.

- Understanding of Agile and Waterfall methodologies

- Experience with object oriented technology and SQL databases.

- Advanced consulting and facilitation skills

- Ability to build and cultivate relationships with internal and external constituents

- Change leadership and a willingness to challenge the status quo

- Excellent communication skills, executive presence and an ability to influence in a collaborative environment

- Effective in managing competing priorities and client needs

- Experience in new system development and managing large projects

- Ability to manage a dynamic creative environment

- Open to engaging in out of the box thinking as it pertains to work space, and development of new ideas

Preferred Skills:

- Bachelor's degree in MIS, CS, or another technical field

- Scrum Master Certified
