Senior Risk Manager & Actuary, AVP (Quantitative)

Responsibilities:+ Identify potential risks and opportunities and recommend actions to take advantage of opportunities or reduce risks through mitigation strategies and limits at the enterprise, risk type, and business level working with the ERM team and/or business risk management colleagues,
  • Recommend strategy and provide counsel to executive management with respect to all aspects of risk management across the businesses
  • Maintain and enhance an Economic Capital model and Capital allocation process
  • liaise with Corporate Actuarial to obtain necessary loss and premium data
  • parameterize data for input into the capital model
  • apply bootstrapping techniques via @Risk in Excel
  • Enhance reserve risk and underwriting risk quantification
  • Assist in risk measurement techniques for Market, Credit and Operational Risk
  • Enhance Stress Testing and Scenario analyses framework
  • Enhance the enterprise infrastructure and risk management analyses, communication and associated risk policies
  • Describe and present oral and written analyses and concepts to executive management so that the risk of the business is well understood, within stated risk tolerances and commensurate with the returns
  • Prepare and present analyses to external parties such as rating agencies and regulators
  • Provide leadership in the areas of new business, including acquisitions and ventures, new investments, and strategic capital allocation
  • Develop and test methodologies for VAR, economic capital, risk measurement, and the forecasting of earnings and liquidity
  • Utilize capital model to:
  • model potential acquisition targets
  • perform risk/reward and RAROC analysis
  • optimize reinsurance portfolio
  • Report to the Chief Risk Officer

    Position Requirements

  • 8-10 years of related experience, demonstrating progressively challenging assignments in the insurance or related industry
  • Extensive experience with economic value/ capital modeling, detailed analyses, and coordination with senior leaders on implementing actions to take advantage of opportunities or mitigate economic risks identified
  • Superior analytical and strategic thinking skills
  • Deep knowledge of financial modeling and simulation techniques, knowledge of ReMetrica a plus
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, experience with Pivot Tables, V Look-Ups, @Risk, etc.
  • Experience with reserve risk and bootstrapping techniques
  • Experience parameterizing data for input into a capital model
  • Knowledge of the Chain Ladder and



  • Fluent with insurance company financial statements
  • Excellent influencing and communication skills
  • Advanced degree in Finance, Econometrics, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, or another quantitative discipline
  • Insurance experience preferred
  • Well established record of team leadership across different geographies and cultures, project management and personal development

    EDUCATION+ Bachelor's Degree or equivalent required
  • Master's, PhD in Econometrics, Statistics, Mathematics or other related fields of study
  • Actuary, Fellow, ACAS or Exams passed
