Under limited supervision, responsible for driving effective and efficient relationships with external law firms and vendors, reducing aggregate costs, enhancing transparency /visibility and implementing greater controls, and reporting and analytics relating to external law firms and legal vendors spend. This position will report directly to Vice President and Associate General Counsel for Bond & Specialty Insurance Claim (Bond Claim). This job does not have staff.

Assists in the implementation of tools to optimize management of legal processes, including legal e-billing and matter management platforms; and developing/deploying innovative strategies to more effectively use legal services. Ensures partners adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements. Provides support to claim managers enabling them to adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements. Creates, in collaboration with Bond Claim leaders and analytical staff, client self-help tools: dashboards, toolkits, training, process flow, and performance scorecards/metrics, etc. Participates with Bond Claim leadership in the development and maintenance of performance metrics. Works with relational databases and systems (internal and external) to extract, compile, and interpret data. Supervises the preparation of quarterly legal summary reports for Bond Claim leadership. Assesses all Bond Claim and Enterprise resources (internal and external) related to matter management, eDiscovery, document management, and billing/vendor management to develop strategic opportunities. Participates in planning and implementation of strategic outside counsel initiatives and supports active law firm management. Serves as liaison with Enterprise Claim and Corporate Legal on overall legal spend and strategic initiatives in that area. Administrates all legal technology tools for Bond Claim, with primary focus on CounselLink (matter management and electronic invoice management systems). Serves as liaison with Technology/IT regarding technical support for claim litigation group. Supervises the maintenance of law firm and legal vendor retention agreements. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum requirements: BA or BS degree or relevant experience required. Minimum five (5) years operations experience, preferably in a legal or claims environment. Preferred requirements: Law Degree or legal certifications preferred.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, critical projects is required. Proactive, entrepreneurial approach to recognizing needs, solving problems, anticipating issues and developing solutions. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office including Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word. Working knowledge of analytics, finance, and project management. Ability to achieve goals through direct and indirect influence and collaboration. Experience with and working knowledge of systems and tools available for matter, document, and vendor management is required. In-depth understanding of law firm billing, pricing, and compensation practices. Strong understanding of litigation matter/claim lifecycles.
