Position Family Summary
The Database Administrator (DBA) designs, documents, provides guidance, and supports database infrastructure solutions to fulfill business or technology requirements.
The DBA Sr. Consultant performs stream implementations and identifies bugs and patches for patching/configuration changes. The Sr. Consultant supports database tuning, creates configuration models, and collaborates with vendors and subject matter experts on complex incidents. Completing complex scripts, independently conducting database research, executing test plans and leading discussions on recovery options are also the responsibility of the Sr. Consultant.
Performs with assistance logical data modeling processes for basic and intermediate application database requirements and converts logical data models into physical data models for intermediate application databases.
Leads and supports applications with low to medium complexity with little to no guidance from Technical leads.
Engage and manage vendor and next level support, providing detailed documentation on initial failure, restoration activity, and impact analysis.
Identify bugs and patches related to issues/incidents, working with vendor support for patch validation. Create rollout plan for permanent problem resolution.
Support root cause analysis on complex incidents.
Analyze and resolve more complex incidents, determining failure impact and proposing/initiating recovery solutions.
Identify underlying problem areas and escalate with appropriate diagnostic details and analysis.
Supports proactive definition and installation of alerts and monitors for database performance and availability. Identifies and participate in problem management related to incidents.
Execute replication implementations.
Install/configure basic new database or physical data guard based on established documented procedures.
Performs basic DDL implementation and intermediate database maintenance services to application development teams.
Assist with testing efforts, troubleshooting, and reviewing trace files.
Define DBMS specific requirements to accommodate physical data models.
Creates, installs, and/or maintains client tools and drivers based on established documented procedures, basic new database or physical data guard based on established procedures and databases of tools/utilities from a third party vendor to support the DBMS environment.
Collect and analyze database capacity metrics. Conduct trend analysis and compare to forecast. Provides recommendations for minimum configuration of hardware and storage requests based on application requirements.
Participate in recovery/rollback as necessary and participates in tests of back-up procedures to ensure integrity of the back-ups.
Provide intermediate database maintenance services to application development teams.
Create and modify jobs for various utilities and provide database services and conducts periodic certification of back-up and recovery processes and verifies alignment with Business Resumption strategy.
Installs and tests products to improve overall database environment, maintains awareness of database software futures, suggest uses or improvements, and conducts impact assessments of new versions of the database management software.
Reviews, introduces and follows architecture and enterprise database standards and partners with other business groups to interpret and implement architecture and enterprise standards.
Completes basic scripts and writes code in SQL to improve DBA efficiencies.
Tune with assistance sub-systems and conduct problem research of parameters and evaluates overall system performance.
- Education: College degree or equivalent work experience;
- 3+ years in Oracle Administration,database management, testing, scripting, or configuration
- Experience with application DBA is a plus
- Previous application development exprience is a plus
