UFG is seeking a program manager to manage a portfolio of projects by working with business leaders to evaluate and prioritize project requests, establish reasonable timelines and manage expectations. The program manager will manage a team of project managers and business analysts to achieve project objectives and create an environment that enables peak performance. Coach, manage and develop employees by establishing clear goals, expectations, and strategies for employee performance.
Perform project audits for your direct reports following the criteria outlined in ProMOTE.
Evaluate new project requests, work with the business sponsor to build out the business case, take new requests, with the finalized business case, to the Governing Body monthly meeting for prioritization. Oversee the definition of scope and manage high level approvals (e.g., phases, requirements, etc.).
Lead Governing Body meetings to discuss, evaluate and prioritize new project requests.
- Establish road-map targets for prioritized projects based on the desired timeline for the business and resource availability. Work with the project manager to communicate expectations to the business community.
Maintain visibility of all projects in the portfolio to ensure: Projects stay on target and within scope, changes to scope are carefully evaluated and implemented only when they add value to the organization, are a good investment, and help achieve the project's goals and objectives.
- Regularly evaluate the processes used within the PMO by observing your team and the effectiveness with which projects are executed.
Oversee the management of groups of related projects which are managed by individual project managers.
- Manage large, complex projects that span organizational boundaries and functional areas.
- Serve as the Release Manager on a rotating basis (responsibility shared amongst all Program Managers in the PMO).
Four-year college degree in business or related discipline.
5 to 10 years of project management or business analysis experience. Previous supervisory experience required.
5 years of insurance experience preferred.
Demonstrated success in managing large, complex projects.
Demonstrated ability to work well with business leaders, insurance agents and customers, vendors, and IT staff.
Certified or working toward a Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) certification.
Insurance coursework or designations in the following areas are desirable: General Insurance, Associate in Personal Insurance, Associate in Commercial Underwriting, Associate in Automation Information Technology or Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter or any of the Life Office Management Association (LOMA) classes or designations.
Strong leadership, facilitation, negotiation, mentoring and personnel management skills.
Thorough knowledge of project management principles and practices.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; the ability to work well with people from many disciplines and with varying degrees of business and technical experience.
Ability to express complex technical concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing, to diverse groups of people.
Adaptability and flexibility including ability to manage multiple priorities and work under deadlines.
Technical background sufficient to understand the issues involved with our automation projects, and be able to anticipate and identify technical obstacles and make good decisions.
