Job Summary: With minimal supervision, underwrites risk and markets company products/services. Manages assigned underwriting territory/district to ensure profitability. Some positions may be handle transfer underwriting from multiple territories. Develops and maintains agent relationships and, in partnership with sales, develops agent profit and growth plans.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Accepts, modifies or rejects risks based on a review of business in terms of loss experience, investigative reports, claims activity, file information and nature of risk. 2. Contacts agents, managers, policyholders and others to obtain additional rating or risk information. 3. Makes account-based decisions based on policyholder's tenure, number of accounts, claims history and long-term performance indicators. Adheres to field rating plans. 4. Recommends coverage alternatives, changes in deductibles and liability limits to reach an agreed risk level with an agent or customer. Accountable for the proper classification of risks to ensure the matching of price and product to the customer. 5. Verifies coverage eligibility. Interprets and uses approved classification systems, rating plans and selection standards to determine eligibility, desirability and proper classification/pricing benchmarks for assigned product lines. 6. Accountable for portfolio management of individual agents and district level reports in assigned territory/underwriting district. 7. Partners with sales managers to achieve profit and growth plans. 8. Serves a primary contact for agents with policy pricing questions, eligibility, reinstatements, overages and classification issues. 9. Recommends and implements approved creative and profitable solutions for all business submitted from assigned territory/underwriting district. 10. Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Education: Undergraduate degree desired. Degree in business administration, insurance, risk management, economics or finance preferred. Actively pursuing of CPCU or other related insurance certification desirable.
Experience: Minimum of one year experience in underwriting or related insurance experience.
Knowledge: Standard business policies, practices and procedures. General understanding of basic analytical and financial techniques. Maintains an understanding and adheres to state specific statues involving underwriting, applicable insurance laws and regulations.
Skills: Written and oral communication skills. Customer Focus, Technical Learning, Relationship Management, Decision Quality, Priority Setting and Drive for Results are competencies expected.
Staffing exceptions to the above Minimum Job Requirements must be approved by: PL leadership and Human Resources.
JOB CONDITIONS: Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Extensive time working on personal computer. May require valid driver's license.
