The Office of the State Treasurer is a Constitutional Office in the Executive Branch of State Government responsible for the oversight and management of the State's money. In general, as the custodian of the State's financial assets, the Treasurer is responsible for receiving, depositing, investing, and distributing State money. In addition, the Treasurer's Office is solely charged with the responsibility for administering the State Insurance Program of purchased insurance and self-insurance coverage of the State's liability under the Maryland Tort Claims Act.
