Our history began in 1950 with the founding of The Cincinnati Insurance Company by several independent insurance agents. Property casualty insurance was our main business, and it still is today.

In 1968, Cincinnati Financial Corporation was founded as a holding company to provide added value to the policyholders and shareholders of The Cincinnati Insurance Company, its lead subsidiary. Six more subsidiaries currently serve as complementary support for Cincinnati Insurance.

  • Two subsidiaries—The Cincinnati Casualty Company, founded in 1972, and The Cincinnati Indemnity Company, founded in 1988—provide flexibility in underwriting and pricing of property casualty business. Together with The Cincinnati Insurance Company, they give businesses, individuals and families access to policies from an insurer that earns the A++ financial strength rating from A.M. Best.
  • In 1970, CFC Investment Company began providing leasing and financing services to independent agents, their clients and other businesses.
  • In 1973, we began life insurance operations. In 1987, our two life insurance companies merged to form The Cincinnati Life Insurance Company. This company, rated A+ by A.M. Best Co., offers life and disability income insurance and annuities for individuals and businesses.
  • In 1998, CinFin Capital Management Company was organized to provide asset management services to institutions, corporations and individuals with $1 million minimum accounts.
  • In August, 2007, The Cincinnati Specialty Underwriters was incorporated, becoming the fourth wholly-owned insurance subsidiary of The Cincinnati Insurance Company. Beginning in 2008, CSU will underwrite excess and surplus coverage exclusively for businesses and individuals served by our company’s local independent agents.



Today, Cincinnati Financial Corporation stands among the nation’s top 20 property casualty insurers, based on consolidated revenues.

How We Work

We believe in doing business person to person. This helps us deliver a high level of service, customize our products to policyholder needs and respond faster in the event of a claim. We do this by placing local marketing and claims staff in the communities they serve. Nearly 30 percent of the Cincinnati Insurance staff lives and works in field locations across our 34 states of operation. Local resident marketing and claims associates work out of their homes, spending much of their time in the offices of our customers, the local independent agents who provide exceptional value and service to the businesses and people in their communities
